The science is explained through exploration, discussion and hands on work such as fieldwork and using the microscope.

Preparation could include asking students to bring in flowers or plants from their own backyards. This will aid in the understanding of identifying features of plants that determine their classification in major groups.

At this point the science explanation needs to follow the student's questions and the experience they bring to the sessions e.g.
Do they know about cells?
Do they recognise that living things are made up of cells?
How do they understand respiration -as a chemical process, as burning food?
Do they know photosynthesis?
Or am I introducing it all?
